The Co-opertive Housing Federation of Norway (NBBL)

The Co-operative Housing Federation of Norway (NBBL) is a national membership association representing 41 co-operative housing associations (building co-operatives). 12.700 housing co-operatives and condominiums, counting 510.000 housing units, are managed by these member associations. 5 600 are affiliated housing co-operatives, with 260 000 housing units, where the members have the right of pre-emption when the units are sold in the marked.

These 41 associations, their 1.020.000 members, the housing cooperatives and NBBL makes up the Norwegian Co-operative Housing Movement. This makes NBBL the third largest membership organisation in the country.

With one exception, all major co-operative housing associations are members in NBBL. The 41 member associations of NBBL are spread out all over the country, but plays a major role primarily in the larger cities. During the last ten years the numbers of associations has been more than halved – due to comprehensive fusion processes. In the period of 2015-17, the co-operative housing associations developed 3-4 000 housing units pr. year. They develop both housing projects organized as co-operatives and condominiums.
